Food growing at pointReturn

On a land where food had never been grown, restoration efforts are beginning to yield some results. Beginning 2010 some modest quantity has been grown, on small patches.

Beginning 2010, more land was developed for agriculture-down-slope- in area designated F9. At the well shown in the image, there's a 1hp solar pump. A 15,000 ltr elevated storage tank was constructed in ferrocement as shown.
For all the extensive RWH carried out upslope, water is still scarce. Added to that, we are only now coming out of a 2 year drought.
Between water, electricity, manpower and soil fertility limitations, crop choices are restricted. We have short-listed millets, peanut, vegetables as things we can grow.
As I write, there have been some showers though not significant to raise well water levels. But conditions are good enough to grow some millets now. Current soil moisture and occasional showers should see them through.
A week ago, following were sowed:
A1 and A7: Raagi [Finger Millet]
A2 and A6: Kambu [Pearl Millet]
A3 and A4: Cholam [Sorghum, jowar]
A5: Napier Grass for cattle
